For Spring Break 2018, I went on an alternative break trip to New Orleans. A great way to spend my 20th birthday! It was an amazing experience and totally worth the thirteen hour drive from Elon. We partnered with YRNO (Youth Rebuilding New Orleans) and worked on a house that was destroyed during Hurricane Katrina. In particular, I worked on filling in the floor cracks with some glue and also painted the outside of the house. The group and I also had the opportunity to work on a local high school's community project. Aside from the amazing service, my team and I were able to visit the city. Below I listed some of the places we visited:
Places We Visited
- Jean Latiffe Swamp Tour
- Riverfront Park
- Sculpture Garden - New Orleans Museum of Art
- Ghost Tour in the French Quarters
- Streetcar down St. Charles Ave
- Lafayette Square Concert Series
- Cafe Du Monte
- Croissant D' or
- Oceana Grill
- Creole Creamery
If you are planning a visit definitely look on Groupon for better rates. Also keep in mind parking in the French Quarters can be difficult with the small roads and many tourists walking the streets.
